How I wish we would objectively look at the political situations in Enugu North Senatorial Zone to be adequately informed to have a well-informed opinion on the matter!
The gentleman zoning arrangement in Enugu North started with Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency when late Sen. Fidelis Okoro served from 1999 -to 2007. After that, Igbo-Eze North/Udenu with Sen. Ayogu Eze between 2007 – 2015 and Igbo-Etiti/Uzo Uwani represented by Sen. Chuka Utazi 2015, concluded in 2023. So, in 2023, all the federal constituencies in the Enugu North Senatorial zone would have served two terms each, thanks to the gentleman arrangement of “rotation/zoning”. So, the rotation should normally restart from where it started in 1999, but abnormally that is far from what we are seeing now.
Now, Igbo-Eze North/Udenu, where Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi hails from, wants to take the rightful turn of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South by truncating the zoning arrangement for sheer selfish reasons because Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi wants to go to the Senate as he retires from the office of the Governor of Enugu State in 2023. He wants to selfishly take the Senatorial turn of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South and wants to deny Igbo-Eze South opportunity to the Senate as it would have rightly been their turn to produce the next Senator for Enugu North Senatorial Zone. It is allegedly believed that Pat Asadu, who would have supposedly been a Senatorial hopeful from Igbo-Eze South (if His people allowed him), struck a deal with Gov. Ugwuanyi to return to the House of Representatives while Gov. Ugwuanyi goes to the Senate. To this extent, Pat Asadu wants to return to the HoR, which means denying Nsukka their right to produce the next HoR member to represent Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency.
This may sound like pure politics, but it is creating severe bad blood in Enugu North Senatorial Zone and the entire Enugu State. You may ask me, How?
Many of the supporters of Gov. Ugwuanyi conversely argue that because the rotation of the Senate has gone round all federal constituencies in Enugu North, it can be restarted from anywhere. Needless to talk about that but if we must, what then happens to the governorship rotation in Enugu state where the same Gov. Ugwuanyi’s supporters argue that since the governorship seat has gone round all the Senatorial Zones in the state through the zoning arrangement, that it should be restarted from where it started in 1999 (Enugu East) which is the reason why Gov. Ugwuanyi is anointing a candidate from Enugu East.
My people, if we are not deceiving ourselves, we should tell ourselves the truth. Gov. Ugwuanyi should not be doing the right thing for Enugu East and be destroying his own Enugu North just for his selfishness. It is quite unfair and unreasonably absurd. Most annoying is that some of us are sheepishly supporting him in the name of a one-party PDP.
My dear Nsukka LGA people, are you watching Gov. Ugwuanyi deny you producing HoR members by returning Pat Asadu?
My good people of Igbo-Eze South, do you want to trade Senate with HoR even with Pat Asadu, who never did something significant in his four terms?
Oh, What PDP has done to us in Enugu State!
Oh, what a one-party system has done to us in Enugu State!
Oh, the menace of Gov. Ugwuanyi!
Oh, which party can rescue us!
I enjoin the people of Enugu North Senatorial District and my good people of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South to resort to God if you can not oppose them, that God may intervene in our matter as He intervened in Kogi State some time ago!
The truth is that Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South has better people than both Gov. Ugwuanyi and Pat Asadu. These duos have served in various capacities without convincing evidence to be returned.
It is well!
